Sports journalism is a competitive field, and it can be difficult getting your foot in the door. That’s why we run this programme. We supply those who want to pursue a career in the industry with all the requisite tools to succeed. Over the course of a few months, you’ll be fully integrated into the FLW content process, learning how to write and market successful articles, read by thousands of football fans each and every day.

What We Are Looking For

We’ll make sure you’re properly onboarded into the team and given a crash course in the fundamentals, but we will require you to possess a few key things:

  • A deep passion for and knowledge of the EFL
  • Experience in your chosen field (e.g. writing, video editing etc.)
  • A solid work ethic, fast learner, and results-driven attitude
  • Adaptable to change and able to react quickly to data trends

    Flexible

    This position will operate on a remote, freelance basis.

     

    Are you an experienced football writer with a passion for and deep knowledge of Wrexham AFC or a fan of the club with a talent for writing who is keen to have their voice heard? 

     

    Football League World is looking to recruit a part-time Wrexham writer to join its growing team and improve our coverage of the Red Dragons. 

     

    We cover the Championship all the way down to League Two and serve a very engaged readership. We always make sure we substantiate our opinion with facts, stats, quotes, and evidence to ensure our audience is always left feeling educated and fulfilled by the content they consume.

     

    If you are the perfect fit for our team of journalists, you will…

     

    • Have extensive knowledge of Wrexham AFC, both in the present and historically, as well as an understanding of the wider EFL.
    • Have experience writing about football, either online, in print or both (Ideally EFL angle)
    • Have a solid foundation of SEO knowledge, including the skills required to ensure your article is formatted correctly for Google Search
    • Have experience writing content targeted for search traffic
    • Have had some experience writing content for a NewsNow audience
    • Have had some experience writing and marketing content for a Facebook audience
    • Know how to accurately substantiate your copy, including the ability to link back to original sources

     

    Job Responsibilities

     

    • Write regular 500+ word list and opinion articles (initially between 1 and 5 per week)
    • Liaise with editors and sub-editors to ensure all content submitted is angled and marketed to fit our content strategy
    • Pitch articles, including angles, titles and substantiation
    • Input work into our CMS, as well as find and format images, according to our guidelines

    We cover the Championship all the way down to League Two and serve a very engaged readership. We always make sure we substantiate our opinion with facts, stats, quotes and evidence to ensure our audience is always left feeling educated and fulfilled by the content they consume.
